Healing through Art therapy! Is a program that has been ongoing for black youth boys and girls who have been through a traumatic life experience. That birthed out of our support group. As we know youth begin the healing process in different ways and we have found that through art programs and expression within like-minded groups of their disabled peers. We can bring everyone together in a comfortable atmosphere. We offer pop-up events for youth to come together and paint, sculpture among other activities. The youth are given the supplies in a reusable bag for the project of choice and can take all supplies home with them. In a public setting, this is offered in a social distancing matter with small numbers due to the current pandemic. It is also offered virtually online on the Zoom platform. This has been funded in the past by the family & friends of Nyshaun Joe and we would like to continue this program and increase outreach to other black youth who are living with disabilities and their caregivers to assist them. Our goal is to promote mental wellness within our youth and meet them where they are.
This program continues to grow because of support from the Community Foundation of Central New York Black Equity & Excellence Grant
